Red Glue SMT Solutions for Double-Sided PCBs

Revolutionizing Double-Sided PCB Assembly with Red Glue SMT

The world of PCB assembly is constantly evolving, and Red Glue SMT Solutions offer a revolutionary approach for double-sided printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). This innovative technique overcomes limitations of traditional solder paste and reflow ovens, paving the way for increased efficiency and cost savings.

Addressing Double-Sided PCB Challenges

Traditional SMT assembly often struggles with double-sided PCBAs due to the differing requirements of SMD (Surface Mount Devices) and through-hole components. Red Glue SMT solves this by:

  • Eliminating high reflow temperatures unsuitable for delicate SMDs.
  • Offering a versatile solution that accommodates both SMD and through-hole components.

The Red Glue SMT Process

Red Glue SMT utilizes a unique process specifically designed for double-sided PCBAs. Here's a breakdown of the key steps:

Applying Red Glue

  • SMT Stencil Printer: Unlike conventional printers, this specialized unit applies Red Glue precisely between components, adhering them to the PCB. The stencil is specifically designed for Red Glue and differs from the standard solder paste steel mesh.

Standard SMT Processes

  • Pick and Place Machine: As with conventional SMT assembly, components are accurately positioned onto the PCB.

Curing Red Glue

  • Reflow Soldering Oven/IR Curing Furnace: Due to the lower curing temperature of Red Glue (around 100-120°C), extremely high reflow temperatures are no longer necessary. In some cases, an even more cost-effective IR curing furnace is used.

Flipping and Populating the Other Side

  • Flipper: The PCB is flipped to ensure SMD components face downwards.
  • Insertion Machines: Three separate machines handle radial, axial, and odd-form through-hole components, placing them precisely.

Budget-Friendly Option: A manual 9-meter insertion line is available for cost-conscious clients.

Completing the Assembly

  • Wave Soldering: The high-temperature solder wave simultaneously reaches contact points of both SMD and through-hole components for efficient soldering.
  • AOI (Automated Optical Inspection): The AOI system inspects both SMT and DIP (Through-Hole) components for comprehensive quality control.

Advantages of Red Glue SMT Solutions

  • Cost-Effectiveness: Red Glue SMT eliminates the need for high-temperature solder paste and reflow ovens, leading to significant energy cost savings.
  • Versatility: This method caters to double-sided PCBAs with both SMD and through-hole components, providing a one-stop solution.
  • Lower Thermal Stress: The lower curing temperature of Red Glue minimizes thermal stress on components, potentially improving long-term reliability.
